Pizza Pies

Cutting board and rolling pin
Baking sheet
Pastry brush
Small spoon

Handstand Kitchen large cookie cutters

Oven mitt

Cooling rack

Pre-made pie crust dough or your own recipe
Mozzarella cheese, shredded
Parmesan cheese, grated
Marinara sauce (store bought or your favorite recipe)
Mini pepperonis, optional
Egg wash (optional)

1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Grease a baking sheet and set aside.

2. Use the rolling pin to roll the pie crust dough out on the cutting board. Cut out shapes using cookie cutters (be sure to cut out 2 of each shape, to make the front and back of the hand pie).

NOTE: If the dough starts to get soft/warm, set it in the refrigerator for a few minutes before resuming. You can also place the cut out shapes in the refrigerator as you continue to work.

3. Take HALF of all of the cut outs and set them aside. For the other half of cut outs, use the spoon to put a little marinara sauce in the middle each cut out. Then add a sprinkle of each cheese and some pepperoni. (Make sure to not over do the filling ingredients as the next part can get messy!)

4. To make the hand pies: take the other cut out halves, and place one over each of the cut outs with the cheese/meat fillings. Gently press down on the sides, until the top and bottom pie crusts fully enclose the fillings for each hand pie. (NOTE: use a wet pastry brush or use a finger dipped in water to outline the cutout edges of the hand pies before pressing them together, if the dough is not easily sticking together.)

5. Carefully place the hand pies on greased baking sheet. (Pro tip: for a golden brown crust on the hand pies, use pastry brush to brush each hand pie with an egg wash: whisk together 1 egg with 1 teaspoon of water.

6. Use oven mitt to place baking sheet in oven. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes, or until crusts are golden brown.  Use oven mitt to carefully remove from oven and place on cooling rack.

7. Allow to cool slightly cool (about 5 minutes) and enjoy!
