Handstand Kitchen® Intro to Baking

  • Silicone mini loaf pan
  • Pastry brush
  • Spatula
  • Mixing spoon
  • Large zip top plastic bag

1 tablespoon canola oil

3 tablespoons butter

1 (10 oz.) package marshmallows

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

3 cups crispy rice cereal

3 cups rice squares cereal

1 (10 oz.) package peanut butter chips

1 tablespoon vegetable shortening

2/3 cup mini pretzel twists, crushed

6 tablespoons roasted salted peanuts

9 whole pretzel twists

  1. Using a pastry brush, thoroughly grease the silicone loaf pan with canola oil. Set aside.
  2. In large pot over medium heat, melt butter.
  3. Add marshmallows, stirring constantly until melted. Stir in vanilla extract.
  4. Remove from heat and fold in cereals.
  5. Use spatula to carefully press cereal mixture into loaf pan.
  6. Allow to cool completely.
  7. Remove from loaf pan and cut into bars.
  8. In large zip top bag, combine pretzels and peanuts, shaking to mix.
  9. Microwave peanut butter chips with shortening for 1 minute; stir well (microwave for another 15 seconds if needed, until just until chips are melted).
  10. Dip tops of cereal bars in peanut butter mixture and immediately sprinkle pretzel mixture over the peanut butter, pressing gently so it will stick. Stand one whole pretzel twist on top of each bar, pressing down slightly, if desired. Allow the bars to set completely before serving.
